Import from ClickUp

Coming from ClickUp? Don't type it all in again. Nydli imports your lists, tasks, subtasks and logged hours, and shows you exactly what will happen before it writes a thing.

Find it at Settings → Data → Import from ClickUp. You need to be the workspace Owner or an Admin, because an import creates labels.

Nydli only ever reads

The import reads from ClickUp and never writes to it. We never change, move or delete anything in your ClickUp workspace, so your old setup is still there if you want to go back and look at it.

Everything happens between our servers and ClickUp's, in Europe. Nobody else sees it, and no AI touches it.

What you need

A ClickUp personal API token. In ClickUp, click your avatar, then Settings → ClickUp API → Generate, and paste the token into Nydli.

We never store the token. Nydli uses it for this one import and forgets it when you close the window. Delete it in ClickUp afterwards if you like.

The four steps

  1. Connect. Paste the token.
  2. Choose the lists. Everything inside a list comes with it, subtasks included. Nydli marks the lists you've already imported and won't let you pick them again, because importing them twice would double their hours on your timesheet.
  3. Choose what comes with them. The options are below.
  4. Look it over. Nydli reads your tasks and shows exactly what it will create, and what it can't import, before it writes anything. You tick to say you've read what happens to your data, and then the Import button comes alive. Nothing has touched your workspace until you press it.

The choices that matter

  • Comments. Nydli has no comments, so it folds a thread into the bottom of the task's description as text. This is the slow one: ClickUp hands over comments one task at a time, so a workspace with a couple of thousand tasks spends most of the import here. Leave it off and the comments stay in ClickUp.
  • Checklist items as subtasks. ClickUp's checklists become real subtasks. Leave it off and the list stays as a checklist in the description.
  • Custom fields. You choose per field. As labels turns a field with a handful of values into a label tree you can filter on, in the description keeps it as text on the task, and leave it out does what it says. A field holding a number or a note only makes sense as text.
  • Images in descriptions. Nydli copies them into your account's storage, so they count towards it. Leave it off and they keep loading from ClickUp. Video links in the descriptions get their preview pictures during the import whether this option is on or off, and those count towards the storage too.
  • File attachments. These come after the tasks are in, so you can see how much there is before you commit to it. See below.
  • A "ClickUp import" label on everything, so you can find the imported work and tell it apart from what you already had. Delete the label whenever you like; undo doesn't depend on it.

It takes a while, and you can walk away

ClickUp answers a limited number of requests a minute, so a full workspace takes twenty minutes or more. You don't have to watch it.

Close the window and a small card stays in the bottom right of every page, showing which step it's on, how far it has come and roughly how long that step has left. When it finishes, the same card becomes the summary. You'll also find it afterwards at Settings → Data.

Cancel the import stops it within a few seconds, and it keeps nothing it has read. The workspace stays exactly as it was.

The files come last

File attachments are their own phase. When the tasks are in, Nydli tells you how many files there are and whether they fit in the account's storage, and you choose whether to take all of them, only the ones under a size you pick, or none. The summary names every file left behind, so you always know what stayed in ClickUp.

A few stay behind whatever you choose, and the panel counts them: files over Nydli's own per-file limit, and anything past the cap on how many files one task can carry.

The storage belongs to the account that owns the workspace, and every workspace on that account shares it. If you're importing into a workspace someone else owns, the panel only tells you whether the files fit. See Storage.

What can't be imported

Some of it is because Nydli doesn't have the feature, and some because ClickUp won't hand it over:

  • Repeat rules. ClickUp's API doesn't expose them, so a repeating task arrives as an ordinary one. Set the repetition up again in Nydli. See Recurring tasks.
  • Docs, whiteboards, goals, chat, automations and templates stay in ClickUp.
  • Dependencies, saved views and guests have no counterpart here.

The review step lists all of it in your own case before you decide, and the summary repeats it afterwards.

Dates and time zones

ClickUp stores a due date as midnight in your ClickUp account's time zone. Nydli reads them in that same zone, so a task due Friday in ClickUp is due Friday here, even if the two accounts are set to different zones.

Undo

For 7 days after an import you can undo the whole thing from Settings → Data. Nydli tells you first what the undo would take with it beyond the import itself, like the tasks you've added inside imported categories, the edits you've made and the hours you've logged since. After the 7 days the imported work is yours, like anything else here.

The report

When the import finishes, you get a report in your downloads as a text file, saying what Nydli imported and what it left behind. Download the report again is on the same screen, and afterwards under Settings → Data.

If something goes wrong

A failed import writes nothing. It rolls back, and your workspace is as it was. Download the error report gives you a file you can send us. It carries no names or email addresses, and nothing out of your tasks. What it does say is which step failed, how far it got and what the error was.
