Searching

The search box sits in the app header and works in two steps, so the common case is instant and the thorough case is one click away.

On a phone, the header shows a search icon instead — tap it and the search field opens across the width of the screen.

Step 1: names, as you type

From the first keystroke, Nydli matches what you type against category and task names. Results appear immediately as you type, with the closest match first: a name that starts with your text beats one where it appears mid-word.

Categories match on their whole path, so typing part of a parent's name finds the ones beneath it too — searching some finds SoMe › Instagram.

Pick a result with the mouse, or use the arrow keys and Enter.

Step 2: descriptions, on request

Names aren't always where the words are. When what you're after lives in a task's description, click Search descriptions below the results, and Nydli searches the text of every description in the workspace, showing a snippet of where the match was found.

This step is deliberately explicit rather than automatic — instant name results stay instant, and the heavier search runs only when you ask for it. If nothing matches at all, the box tells you so plainly: No matches, not even in descriptions.

Closed and archived tasks

Closed tasks are left out of search by default. Tick Include closed tasks to bring them in — matches are marked with a Closed badge. This option applies to the description search, and turning it on runs that search straight away.

Archived tasks and categories never appear in search, by design. Archived work is meant to be out of the way; the Archive page is where you go to find it, and unarchiving brings it back into search.

Tasks in the Trash don't appear in search either — restore them first.
