Sending us feedback

While Nydli is in beta you'll find a small Feedback tab on the right edge of the window. Whatever you write there goes straight to the two of us who make Nydli, so it's the quickest way to tell us that something is broken or that you're missing something.

If the tab is in the way of something, drag it up or down along the edge. The dots at the top show that it can be moved, and a short press still opens the form. You can also move it with the arrow keys once it has focus.

The tab stays where you left it the next time you open Nydli in the same browser.

The tab steps aside while you have a dialog open, because it would otherwise cover the buttons you're trying to press. When you're editing a task you'll find the same lavender Feedback button in the editor's top row instead.

You press the tab and write a few words

When you press the tab, you choose what it's about:

  • Something is broken
  • An idea
  • Something else

Then write a few words under Your feedback. You don't need to write much, but we do need some words, because a picture on its own rarely tells us what you expected to happen.

Press Send feedback and you're done. We read everything that comes in. If we have a question we'll reply by email, to the address you sign in with.

You can add a picture of the page

A picture of the page often says more than a paragraph, so you can press Add a screenshot, and Nydli takes a picture of the page you're on. The feedback form itself isn't in the picture.

You'll get the picture in an editor with five tools:

  • Move lets you grab something you've already drawn and drag it somewhere else.
  • Draw lets you draw freely with your mouse or your finger.
  • Box puts a frame around the thing you want us to look at.
  • Black out covers anything we don't need to see.
  • Write puts a few words on the picture itself.

Undo takes back the last thing you did, a move included, and Clear all starts you over. When the picture shows what you mean, press Use picture.

Nothing is sent when you press Use picture. You come back to the form, where you can still edit the picture or remove it, and it only goes to us when you press Send feedback.

If a page has a very long list on it, Nydli can't take the picture, because the page is too big to photograph. You can still send your text without it.

Black out anything we shouldn't see

Please black out anything that isn't ours to see, like a client's name. What you black out is covered completely before the picture leaves your browser, so we can't see what was underneath.

Some things never make it into the picture at all. What Nydli shows you while you set up two-factor authentication is left out, and so are your backup codes, even if they're on your screen.

If you forget to hide something and we notice, we black it out ourselves. The picture with the extra black replaces the one you sent, and we don't keep the original.

What comes with your words

We get a short technical description as well, because "it doesn't work" usually turns out to depend on the browser or the size of the window. Press Show what is sent and you can read it before you send it.

The list is:

  • Your name and email address, so we know who to reply to
  • The page you were on, with your browser and the size of the window
  • Which style, mode and language you use Nydli in
  • The version of Nydli you were running
  • Any errors it ran into in the last five minutes

If something breaks badly enough to end the page, reload it and send the feedback straight after. The errors are kept for those five minutes even though the page started over, so the one that broke it comes along.

A few of your settings come along as well. We get your time zone and the day your week starts on. We also get whether you have time tracking and whimsy switched on.

We don't get your tasks, your hours or anything else from your workspace, unless it's visible in a screenshot you chose to add.

What happens afterwards

We go through everything, and we may write back to ask what you meant. When something you reported is fixed, you may get an email from us saying so.

The screenshot is deleted 90 days after you sent it. Your words are kept while we work on them, and they're deleted a year after we close the case. If you delete your account, your feedback goes with it.
